Salisbury and Kent boys basketball teams face off in nail-biter Jan. 17

SALISBURY — Salisbury School’s Crimson Knights varsity basketball team hosted Kent School for a tight game on Monday, Jan. 17. Salisbury ended up victorious, but by a scant four points, with a final tally of 66-62.

The Knights maintained a substantial lead throughout the game, and in the first half it appeared that Kent had hardly a chance to catch up. The score at halftime was 32-20.

Near the end of the second half, however, Kent made a comeback, bringing the score to 62-64 with 24 seconds left on the clock. The comeback fell short, though, when a foul allowed Salisbury’s Jon Seltzer to score two extra points for a nerve-wracking finale.

The win was the eighth in a row for Salisbury, whose team was led by Seltzer’s 30 points, which is a season high. Seltzer was aided by 12 points from Chris McCullough and 11 points from Zaid Hearst.

The team’s defense was led by Samuel Dingba, who contributed 10 rebounds, blocked four shots, and made three steals. Ryan Frazier contributed three assists to the win.

Salisbury head coach Jeff Ruskin noted that both schools’ teams were very solid, and that his boys had put on their “A-gameâ€ to defeat Kent.

“We’re lucky the game was only 32 minutes long, he said of the narrow win. “If it was 34 minutes long, there might have been a different result.
