Awards mark Sharon commencement

SHARON — Ominous and threatening skies on Wednesday, June 14,  brought the Sharon Center School Commencement safely indoors. Comfortably relocated in the gymnasium, the ceremonies proceeded with happily dry graduates and their families and friends.

The class of 2023 was comprised of six students entering in a processional, followed by the traditional Pledge of Allegiance, and National Anthem.

Sharon Center School Principal, Carol Tomkalski,  welcomed the guests and congratulated the graduates with heartfelt wishes for their futures.

Student essayist Lily Haxo then spoke of her time at Sharon, saying  “Sharon has taught me to persevere, and never to give up.” Saying also that her time there has been formative and she is “proud to have changed.”

Graduate Finian Malone also spoke of his time at Sharon, saying “We have memories and the promise of new ones.”

Awards were then given in categories including academics , music, science, athletics, art and math.

The certificates were awarded, and kind words were spoken by Sylvie Stiffler, the valedictorian of Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s class of 2023,

The Sharon School Cup. was presented to Finian Malone by Doug Cahill, chair of the Sharon Board of Education.
