Split decision for Housy girls

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School (HVRHS) girls varsity basketball team traveled to Northwestern and lost 61-49 on Jan. 29. HVRHS was led by Co- captain Heather Kearns with 19 points, which included five three-pointers. Katie Heacox chipped in with 10 points and nine rebounds.Hailey Nelson had six points and seven assists. Co-captain Lindsey Olownia scored six points, and Abby Wilson had six points and two steals. Chelsea Kearns had two points and two steals. Hanna McGuire and Amelia Zucco also played, but did not figure in the scoring. Northwestern was led by their senior star Rasa Hamel who had 31 points. Kathleen Wysocki had 12 points, and Emma Beltrandi scored nine points. Arielle Oemcki contributed six points, and Liz Newkirk finished out the scoring with three points.Housy defeats Gilbert On Feb. 1, HVRHS traveled to The Gilbert School and qualified for the Berkshire League and State tournaments by beating Gilbert 61-28.Housatonic was led by Olownia who scored 15 points, six rebounds and six steals. Heacox had 13 points and nine rebounds. Heather Kearns also had 13 points with four steals. Nelson had four points, seven rebounds and 11 assists. Wilson had four points and three rebounds.Sophomore Stefanie Serna, playing in her first varsity game, scored five points. Savannah Martin had three points and five rebounds. McGuire and Chelsea Kearns scored two points each; Kearns also recorded eight rebounds. Zucco played well but did not score. Gilbert was led by Amanda Root with 12 points, all three-point shots; Shelley De La Paz scored eight points; Aleigh Valickis had five points while Bailey Campbell finished the Gilbert scoring with three points. This season Housatonic has a record of eight wins and eight losses. Their remaining home games are Monday, Feb. 11, and Wednesday, Feb. 13, which will be celebrated on Senior Night. The hearing closed on Tuesday, Sept. 9, after its seventh session.

Following the memorable benefit reading last season of Charles Busch’s Tony-nominated Broadway hit, “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife,” the Sharon Playhouse will present a one-night-only staged reading of his riotous comic melodrama “Die Mommie Die!” on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.

The production —a deliciously over-the-top homage to classic Hollywood mid-century thrillers — ­­continues the Playhouse’s artistic partnership with Busch, who reprises his iconic role of the glamorous yet troubled songstress Angela Arden.
