Stanley M. Segalla

NORTH CANAAN — Stanley M. Segalla, 97, of Ashley Falls Road died March 31, 2011, at the Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Canaan. He was the husband of Anita R. (Cantele) Segalla. Stanley was born in North Canaan on March 5, 1914, to the late Justina (Pasin) and John Segalla.Stanley owned the Stateline Package Store in North Canaan. He opened the business in 1950, and ran the business for 56 consecutive years until he retired in 2006. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in North Canaan and a member of the Berkshire Council Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Italian Society and was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed baseball and rooting for the Cardinals and the Red Sox. In addition to his wife, Stanley is survived by his son, Ronald L. Segalla of Simsbury; two granddaughters, Starlene Lorenzen of Florida and Emily Segalla of New York; two great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Louis, John and Frank. Stanley was predeceased by his son, John Gabriel “Gabe” Segalla, on Dec.10, 2008; and his brothers, Mono and Tony.Stanley’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Cardinal Court unit of the Geer for the excellent care that was given so compassionately to Stanley.A Mass of Christian burial was held April 5 at St. Joseph’s Church. Burial followed in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.Memorial donations may be sent to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.Arrangements are in the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.

WASHINGTON — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s boys varsity soccer team advanced to the Berkshire League tournament final after a 1-0 win over Shepaug Valley High School in the semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 24.

Jackson McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
