State Police

The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. 

Suspicious flyers

An investigation into a complaint of suspicious flyers began July 20 with a report of one posted at Brodie Park in New Hartford. In subsequent days, some town residents reported flyers were left in their mailboxes. Anyone with information should call the New Hartford resident state trooper’s office at 860-379-8621.

Pickup hits pole

Brett Connors, 44, of New Hartford was driving south on Cedar Lane in New Hartford July 23. At about 9:45 a.m., as he traveled through the intersection of Winchester Road, his 1997 Ford E350 veered off the left side of the road. It hit a utility pole. Connors was not injured. The accident remains under investigation.

Possession charges

David Mona, 52, of Barkhamsted was arrested July 23 after troopers responded to a 5:42 p.m. complaint of criminal mischief at his Partridge Lane home. Marijuana plants were discovered. Mona was charged with unauthorized manufacture of narcotics and possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $10,000. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court Aug. 4.

Cash and sign stolen

A report of cash and a pizza delivery car top sign stolen from a restaurant on Route 44 in Barkhamsted is under investigation.  Amine Jabri, of Torrington filed the complaint July 25. The suspect is a former employee.

Swim area broken into

Stancliff Cove Swim Area was broken into during the overnight hours of July 25 to 26. The office doors and a sign on a floating dock in the swim area were damaged. Nothing was reported as missing. Anyone with information should call Trp. Villar at 860-824-2500.

Rear-end collision

Benjamin Saunders, 31, of South Hadley, Mass., was driving west on Route 44 in Barkhamsted July 26. At about 6:48 p.m., at the intersection of Eddy Road, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, registered to passenger M.K. Chiapperino, 27, of Carmel, N.Y., hit the rear of a 2002 Subaru Legacy driven by Elise Pelletier, 19, of Barkhamsted. Pelletier was stopped while waiting to turn left onto Eddy Road. Saunders sustained a minor right hand abrasion. There were no injuries to Pelletier or Saunders’ passengers, Chiapperino, Danielle Archambault, 20, and Joseph Adamowicz, 19, both of Southampton, Mass. Saunders was charged with following too closely.

WASHINGTON — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s boys varsity soccer team advanced to the Berkshire League tournament final after a 1-0 win over Shepaug Valley High School in the semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 24.

Jackson McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

Students dressed in neon lined the soccer field for senior night under the lights on Thursday, Oct. 16. The game against Lakeview was the last in a series of competitions Thursday night in celebration of Homecoming 2025.

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
