State Police

The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. 

Windows broken

Two windows were smashed at an office at Ski Sundown on Ratlum Road in New Hartford between 11 p.m. March 19 and 2:30 a.m. March 20. The incident is under investigation.

Turning vehicle hit

Tanya Johnson, 26, of Manchester, Conn., was driving east on Route 44 in Barkhamsted March 21. At about 3:40 p.m., the right front of her 2013 Ford Fusion hit the right rear of a 2011 Ford Ranger driven by James Becktel, 60, of Barkhamsted. Becktel was turning right into a private driveway when the collision occurred. There were no injuries to the drivers. Johnson’s passenger, Tonya Grzybowski, 28, of Bristol, Conn., was taken to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for evaluation. The vehicles sustained moderate to severe damage and were towed. No enforcement was noted.

Rear-end collision

Kelly Mead, 46, of Fairfield, Conn., was driving north on Route 8 in Winsted March 26. At about 3:36 p.m., at the end of the exit ramp, her 2012 Lincoln MKZ hit the rear of a 2010 Chevrolet Impala driven by Phillip Patrick, 53, of Winsted. Patrick was stopped and waiting to turn right onto Route 44. There were no injuries. The Chevrolet is registered to Kinsley Equipment Co. Inc., of East Granby, Conn. Neither vehicle was towed. Mead was charged with following too closely.

Graffiti investigated

The New Hartford Resident State Trooper’s office is investigating a March 26 report of graffiti on some of the buildings at Brown’s Corner town park. Anyone with information should call 860-379-8621.

Distracted driver

Jaire Shocket, 75, of New Marlborough, Mass., was driving north on Colebrook Road/Route 183 in Colebrook March 26. At about 11:35 a.m., she dropped her sunglasses and attempted to retrieve them. Her 2014 Buick Verano went off the road. It hit a guardrail on the northbound shoulder. Shocket was not injured. The car was towed with front-end damage. Shocket was given a written warning for failure to maintain the proper lane.

DUI

Edward Ransom, 49, of West Hartland, Conn., was arrested March 28 after he was stopped by police at 2:06 a.m. while driving on Wetmore Avenue in Winsted. He was charged with driving under the influence, failure to obey a traffic signal and following too closely. Ransom posted a $500 bond. He is to appear in Bantam Superior Court April 13.

Disorderly conduct

Lindsey Prevuznak, 32, of Norfolk was arrested March 28 following a disturbance reported at 3:10 a.m. at her Hall Meadow Road residence. The complainant was Matthew Renzullo, 26, of Torrington. Bond was set at $500. Prevuznak was to appear in Bantam Superior Court March 30.

WASHINGTON — Housatonic Valley Regional High School’s boys varsity soccer team advanced to the Berkshire League tournament final after a 1-0 win over Shepaug Valley High School in the semifinal game on Friday, Oct. 24.

Jackson McAvoy scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes remaining.

School spirit on the rise at Housy

Students dressed in neon lined the soccer field for senior night under the lights on Thursday, Oct. 16. The game against Lakeview was the last in a series of competitions Thursday night in celebration of Homecoming 2025.

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.
