Students fly at SWSA Ski Jump Camp

SALISBURY — The Salisbury Winter Sports Association (SWSA) held its annual Holiday Ski Jump Camp on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 28 and 29, at the association’s Satre Hill jumps in Salisbury. Each year SWSA sponsors the two-day camp for youngsters ages 6 and older. There were 23 students this year, ranging in age from 6 to 14 years old. The clinic was led by SWSA members Ken Barker and Mark Breen. On the first day, students learned the basic in-run position and skied on the landing hill. The second day several of the children, including the youngest skiers, skied off the 20-meter jump.Barker said there was a very good turn-out for the two-day program and that about a half dozen of the students have signed up for the SWSA winter program, which began Dec. 31. Weather was excellent for the clinic, he said, with snow on the ground (in addition to snow that was made artificially) and pleasant temperatures. SWSA will host an Alpine Jumping weekend on Jan. 25 to 27. Jumpfest Weekend is Feb. 8 to 10. For more information, go to www.jumpfest.org. The Salisbury Winter Sports Association ski jumps are featured in the January/February 2013 issue of Yankee magazine on page 40 in an article called, “New Englandville: The Town of Our Dreams,” which features unique attractions and events all over the region.
