Superintendent Award

KENT — Shirleen Santiago was chosen for the 2015 Superintendent Award for Kent Center School because she “radiates a quality of character.”

The daughter of Ofelia Zarate and Julio Santiago of Kent, she loves science and loves to learn fun facts and hopes one day to be a doctor.

She describes herself as an outdoorsy person who likes to keep busy.

“She is active in our school community, where she is a co-captain of the girls’ soccer team,” the school reported in the write-up that accompanies the award.

She is also active outside the school, “where she is a member of Sacred Heart Church.

“She is well respected by her peers and by adults for her dedication to her studies. A high honor student, Shirleen also enjoys playing the clarinet in the school band.”

In the band and in the larger school community, Shirleen is described as a “natural leader and an especially positive role model who displays a kind and pleasant demeanor at all times and always puts forth maximum effort in every one of her endeavors.”
