Terrie (Miller) Curtis

MILLERTON — Terrie (Miller) Curtis, 69, died on June 15, 2016.

She was born Aug. 19, 1946, at Sharon Hospital, the daughter of the late Dorothy (Gottliebsen) and Harry Lee Miller.

Terrie knew she wanted to be a nurse at the age of 10. After graduating from Webutuck Central School she attended Vassar Hospital School of Nursing.

Terrie worked at Vassar Brothers Hospital and for several doctors groups before working at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation in North Canaan for 28 years as staff development coordinator and infection control nurse. She also taught the CNA classes with great success.

Terrie was the first female firefighter and EMT in the Millerton Fire Department and Millerton Rescue Squad. She became secretary of the Millerton Fire Dept. — a job she tackled with much enthusiasm and dedication.

She was a former president of the Litchfield County Infection Control Nurses Association and she was also certified as a geriatric nurse by the ANCC.

Terrie is survived by her husband, Allan “Corky,” at home. She is also survived by her brother, Thomas Miller and his wife, Maureen, of North Canaan; her sisters, Tracy (Miller) Golden and her husband, Timothy, of Torrington and Tamara Kammerer of Middletown, N.Y.; her children, Wendy Eichman and her husband, Philip, of North Canaan, Wade Curtis and his wife, Rebecca, of Falls Village and Michelle Fails and her husband, Todd, of Lakeville; and her grandchildren, who were the loves of her life, Timothy and Emily Deming, Warren Eichman, Konnor, Mia, Blaine and Isabella Curtis and Wiley Fails.

A memorial service was held June 21 at the East Canaan Congregational Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sand Road Animal Hospital’s Mr. Mike Fund, to help animals in need; or to the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, 103 Vision Way, Bloomfield, CT 06002.

Arrangements are under the care of the Newkirk Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.
