Town revitalization group forms

WINSTED — Members of the Winsted Revitalization Coalition were seen around town on Thursday, Aug. 6, repainting light posts on Main Street.

According to member and Selectman Candy Perez, the group of volunteers was formed in February in order to support and help with various town projects.

“Our mission is to support efforts in town and to lend a hand to get things done,” Perez said. “Currently we have 17 members. Our next project will be to help the Soldiers’ Monument Commission in September with their various events.”

Member Glenn Zeh said he hopes more residents join the group.

“We believe Winsted has great untapped potential as a vibrant and culturally diverse family friendly community,” Zeh said. “Our vision and goal is to create great pride in Winsted by reinforcing relationships among the residents, business community, the educational system and the town’s government. Our group is made up of dedicated citizens who work together on projects that improve life for everybody.”

“We hope that our efforts inspire others to pitch in as well as making Main Street look attractive for everyone,” Perez said.

As homecoming week reaches its end and fall sports finish out the season, an air of school spirit and student participation seems to be on the rise across Housatonic Valley Regional High School.

But what can be attributed to this sudden peak of student interest? That’s largely due to SGA. Also known as the Student Government Association, SGA has dedicated itself to creating events to bring the entire student body together. This year, they decided to change some traditions.

As the chilly breeze settles in, Halloween approaches and the community yearns for spooky festivities — HVRHS has answered that calling. An event held annually for the past eight years, the HVRHS haunted house has returned.

The event is organized by the current senior and junior year classes — 2026 and 2027 respectively — and held to raise money that goes toward the junior and senior class’s activities such as senior week, prom, the senior class trip, and more.
