Tribute Garden thanked

MILLBROOK — At the Millbrook Rotary Club’s meeting on Wednesday, May 11, club President Ellie Savoy presented The Betty White Community Service Award to The Tribute Garden Foundation in recognition of all the support this organization provides to the local community. Accepting the award for the Tribute Garden was George Whalen Jr. Whalen has been the foundation’s treasurer for 30 years. He gave a brief history of the organization, explaining that the garden was established by the Thorne family to pay tribute to the soldiers who served in World War I. Subsequently, soldiers who have served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam have been included. Following Whalen’s remarks, several club members gave personal statements of appreciation for the Tribute Garden support of so many community organizations and activities that make Millbrook a better place, thus exemplifying the Rotary motto, “Service above Self.”
