As the summer season begins, we are revisiting and summarizing some of the ongoing issues that have captured our attention during the past year.
FALLS VILLAGE/SALISBURY — Despite the 11th-hour threat from an endangered dragonfly that could have stopped construction, the Amesville bridge (if you live in Salisbury) or the Water Street bridge (for residents of Falls Village) is on schedule for a passable span by Dec. 1.
The bridge connects Salisbury and Canaan/Falls Village over the Housatonic River at the Great Falls and has been out of commission now for several years, since being closed down by state authorities.
Salisbury First Selectman Curtis Rand said on May 18 that a last-minute flurry of paperwork activity regarding the rare dragonfly was sorted out, work on the abutments will begin shortly and the actual bridge will be constructed over the summer, brought to the site and installed.
