Two major horse trials upcoming in Millbrook

MILLBROOK — The 12th annual Millbrook Horse Trials will be held Thursday through Sunday, Aug. 2 to 5, and is expected to draw a field of more than 500 horse-and-rider combinations. The trials is held at Coole Park Farm.In addition to regular competitors, it is also the grand finale for Career 2 registered thoroughbreds that have competed on this season’s New York eventing circuit. In the new Career 2 program, many of the thoroughbred horses are retired racehorses in need of new jobs and homes.“Eventing is considered the triathlon of the equestrian world because it combines the disciplines of dressage, stadium jumping and cross-country jumping, said Beth Ledy, co-director of Career 2. Eventing requires athleticism, stamina, courage and a quick mind, all characteristics of the thoroughbred.”The Millbrook Horse Trials benefits the Dutchess Land Conservancy (DLC), which is dedicated to preserving rural open space. Also on the New York Event Circuit (and also featuring events with Career 2 thoroughbreds) is the Fitch’s Corner Horse Trials from Friday to Sunday, July 20 to 22.More information on the Millbrook Horse Trials can be found at www.millbrookhorsetrials.com.
