Webutuck BOE approves instructional resignations, reduces positions

WEBUTUCK — The Webutuck Board of Education started the month of June by keeping informed about the North East (Webutuck) Central School District’s capital improvement project — and bidding farewell to a number of educators resigning from the district at its meeting on Monday, June 3.

Webutuck Superintendent of Schools Raymond Castellani reported there are no new updates on the capital improvement project as the district is still working with the New York State Department of Health on the design for the district’s septic system.

Under the agenda’s personnel section, the board approved the resignation of art teacher Michael Wiegard, effective Sunday, June 30, as well as secondary English teacher Sarah Espositio, effective Monday, July 1. A teacher aide position was abolished with an effective date of Monday, July 1, while a special education teacher position was eliminated with an effective date of Sunday, Sept. 1.

Looking ahead to the district’s instructional summer school program, the board appointed Tammy Nethercott and Jonathan Scarinzi as special education teachers; Monica Baker as an English as a Second Language teacher; and Jordan Stroly as a speech teacher. The positions occupied by Nethercott, Scarinzi and Stroly will span Monday, July 8, through Friday, Aug. 16, while Baker’s position will stretch from Monday July 22, through Friday, Aug. 16. All positions will be paid a salary of $55 per hour.

For the summer school program’s support staff, the board appointed Patty Steen and Jenna Garofalo as teaching assistants and Carole Sanson-Furey as a teacher aide. All positions will be in effect from Monday, July 8, through Friday, Aug. 16, with a salary paid according to the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) contract.

Ethan Lounsbury and Ernesto Sebastian were appointed substitute teachers with a salary of $85 a day; their appointments began the following day on Tuesday, June 4.

For the district’s substitute support staff, the board appointed Michael DeLanoy as a substitute cleaner; Lounsbury and Sebastian as substitute teaching assistants and substitute teacher aides; and Sebastian as a substitute monitor. Sebastian and Lounsbury will be paid a salary of $11.96 an hour for their teacher aide and teaching assistant positions. Meanwhile, DeLanoy will be paid a salary of $13.36 an hour and Sebastian will be paid a salary of $11.29 an hour for his substitute monitor position. All positions began on Tuesday, June 4.

With regard to temporary support staff positions, the board approved the appointments of William Ford, Cameron Farnham and Glen MacGillivray as seasonal workers. All positions will be paid a salary of $11.10 per hour and will be effective Monday, July 1, through Friday, Aug. 23.
