4-H Milk Bar is a cool stop at Columbia County Fair

CHATHAM — For those who find themselves thirsty and hungry while at the Columbia County Fair, which runs from Aug. 30 through Sept. 4, the 4-H Milk Bar is the perfect solution. Local ingredients are used — ice cream from Dutchess County’s Sinon Farms and Hudson Valley Fresh milk. Hot fudge sundaes are a specialty — prepared with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and topped off with a cherry.

The 4-H Milk Bar is located near the Route 203 entrance to the fairgrounds, right across from Columbia Hall. It is run by adult and teen volunteers from around the Tri-state region and is often the first opportunity some 4-H members have to experience a work environment where they interact with the public. The funds raised from this enterprise are used to support a variety of 4-H club programs including career awareness and citizenship trips, volunteer chaperones and awards and recognition.

4-H is New York’s only youth development program directly connected to the technological advances and the latest research at Cornell University. 4-H participants learn leadership, citizenship and life skills through hands-on projects in three primary program areas: science and technology, healthy living and citizenship.
