Autumn outdoor fun at Audubon Kid’s Day

SHARON — One of the signature autumn events in the Northwest Corner is Audubon Kids’ Day at the Audubon Center on Route 4 in Sharon.

This year it will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27, from noon to 3 p.m. Admission is $20 per carload at the gate.

Audubon Kids’ Day offers a cornucopia of outdoor and indoor fun for children and their families. It precedes Hallowe’en and offers many of the traditional seasonal fun, including face painting and a costume parade around the Audubon center grounds, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

There are also carnival games for children to test their skills and a hay bale maze.

There are crafts for children, many of them involving ways to dress up found items from nature. There are hay wagon shuttle rides and a giant leaf pit.

Children can also play with live animals and of course visit the birds who live at the center.  Toward the end of the Kids’ Day there will be a live bat program with “The Bat Lady,” Gerri Griswold.

Snacks will include fresh apple cider donuts from Great Cape Baking Co., baked on the premises. This event is sponsored in part by the Armand Oppenheimer Environmental Fund, Northwest Realty, Sharon Dental Associates, and Sharon Hospital, and is ideal for children in grades pre-kindergarten through third grade.

For more information, contact the Sharon Audubon Center at 860-364-0520 or go to www.sharon.audubon.org/audubon-kids-day.

Heavy rain will cancel Kids’ Day; be sure to call ahead if you’re unsure; the weather forecast for the weekend is sunny.
