Norfolk man and former Miss Hall’s teacher indicted on sexual assault charges

PITTSFIELD, MASS. — A former Miss Hall’s School science teacher from Norfolk was indicted on three criminal charges by a Berkshire Superior Court grand jury Thursday, Aug. 20, according to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office.

Matthew Johnson, 70, was indicted on one count of assault with intent to rape and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person over age 14. The charges stem from Johnson’s tenure at Miss Hall’s School, where he taught science from 1993 to 1994, prosecutors said.

The District Attorney’s Office said its investigation found that Johnson was dismissed from the school in 1994 before the end of the school year.

Johnson is the third former Miss Hall’s School staff member to be indicted as part of investigations into alleged abuse at the Pittsfield private school. An arraignment date has not been set.

SALISBURY — Jam Food Shop has officially closed its Sharon location, with its much-anticipated standalone store still under renovation in Salisbury.

Jam Food Shop, previously operating out of the Sharon Farm Market, is in the middle of renovating its new location at 19 Main St. Construction crews are renovating the former Neo Restaurant and Bar space as locals await the deli’s opening.

Meade Canine Rescue and Sanctuary is not the average rescue. Situated on a quiet dirt road on 8 acres in Wingdale, the dogs living there are, for the most part, uncaged, roaming the yard, sleeping in the house, resting in the shade of a tree or lounging in the open van that often takes them for rides.
