Award-winning twins at Colebrook school

COLEBROOK — Twin sisters Erika Jean Swartley and Marissa Lee Swartley have been named Colebrook Consolidated School’s 2010 Superintendent Award winners.

The 11-year-old twins are the daughters of Wendy and Vernon Swartley.

Both girls have been cited for their academic excellence and participation in the school’s student council.

They also play soccer, softball and basketball and are active volunteers in the community.

“It’s a great honor, Erika said. “We both are usually battling it out with each other.

“We both try to be really competitive, Marissa said. “But this award really doesn’t count as being competitive with each other.

Erika and Marissa said they love Colebrook School because of the small community environment.

“Everyone here knows each other, Marissa said. “All of the people here are like family.

Erika said math and social studies are her favorite subjects.

“My parents are engineers, so it’s great to talk to them about math, Erika said.

Marissa said music and social studies are her favorite subjects.

“With social studies you get to learn about the past and with music you get to make your own songs, Marissa said.

She added that she would like to either be a writer or a musician when she grows up, while Erika said she wants to be either a teacher or a basketball player.
