BARKHAMSTED — The Barkhamsted Historical Society and the Friends of the Beardsley and Memorial Library held a Giant Tag and Book Sale at the Barkhamsted Town Garage on Saturday, May 16.
According to organizers, the fundraiser helps both groups to purchase programs and needed materials for their respective organizations. For example, the Friends of the Library recently financed the upgrade of custom oak wood shelving for the Local History and Genealogy room upstairs at Beardsley and Memorial.
“We have a good arrangement here for this event,” Friends Secretary and Historical Society member Paul Hart of Barkhamsted said. “Each group really does better because the other is here. It’s a true synergy of ideas and efforts. The fact that we’ve been in this very visible location the past few years certainly helps as well.”
Over $1,500 was raised in total sales. The Barkhamsted Historical Society sold over $900 in tag sale items, hot dogs, hamburgers and beverages. The Friends of the Library sold almost $600 worth of books and other media, such as CDs and DVDs.
