MILLBROOK — The Village Board meeting on Tuesday, April 9, included a public hearing concerning the upcoming budget. Mayor Rodney Brown went over the work done so far, and there were no remarks or questions. The budget will be finalized on Tuesday, April 23, after presstime.
The Millbrook Fire Department logged in a total of 73 incidents, including 49 EMS calls. Also logged in, Northern Dutchess Paramedics (NDP) made 38 responses; Millbrook fire department rescue squad had 14 calls and Advanced Life Support (ALS)/Mutual Aid responded to eight calls. The report was given by Ted Bownas, fire chief.
Police Officer Jared Witt reported 78 calls for service, including 12 assists for other police agencies, seven assists for the fire department and assisting Emergency Medical Services (EMS), there were five calls in the village and eight in the town. No school checks were conducted.
Highway Superintendent Robert Collocola put up new welcome signs, a new street sign at Bennett Commons and two new stop signs on Reservoir and Maple avenues. The Highway Department installed nets at the tennis courts, repaired pot holes and filled in low spots, where needed. Brush season has begun, check the village website for the schedule. And as usual at this time of year, trees were trimmed, taken down as needed and disposed of.
The Building Department report showed $200 collected for building permits; $150 for sign permits; and $150 for municipal searches. The total amount collected was $475; the year to date collection clocks in at $1,795.
Village Attorney Rebecca Valk was asked to provide reports of her work at each meeting, which she did. She has been working with reviewing village coding and the Thorne Building contract among other things, and is currently working with Trustee Mike Herzog on the shade commission law.
The board, and the audience, reflected on the meeting that took place at the firehouse on April 8 regarding 24/7 paid ambulance service. For more, read last week’s edition or go to www.tricornernews.com.
The public also asked questions about the sale of the Thorne Building, and the state of the buildings at the old Bennett College. Mayor Brown responded to the inquiries by reminding the residents that the village does not own the buildings on said property and that all complaints and messages should be made to the legitimate owners.
The mayor also signed a proclamation announcing Arbor Day on Friday, April 26.
