Business Profile: Artisans Guild offers variety of works

NORFOLK — The Artisans Guild, located at 10 Station Place, is a colorful store which co-owner, Vee Kausel, calls “an outlet for the local artisans.”

The store houses the unique works of some 40 local artists at any given time, according to Kausel, who co-owns the store with Kathy Williams.

She said that everything from leather and wood work, handmade jewelry, hand painted yarns and other fiber arts, pottery and textiles, artwork, and savories can be found at the store.

“The Guild was started 27 years ago by local artisans and we’ve been in our current inviting location since 2011,” Kausel said. “There are two ways one can be involved in the Guild: Either as a regular member or as a guest artisan.”

Kausel said regular members have goods featured around the store while the guest artisan has a display in the front window for a two month period.

A featured artist is also given the wall space above the cashier to display artwork for that same two month period.

The current guest artisan is Mary Smith, who makes quirky jewelry out of ordinary vegetables.

The current guest artist is Gary Barron, whose pen and ink New York landmarks currently grace the walls of the store

The store is open Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
