Deceased Mystery Man Remains Unidentified

AMENIA — There are once again fliers around town asking for information about a man who died back in 2001 or 2002, who was found in the woods behind the Amenia Fish and Game Club.

"The thing we’re trying now is to send out bulletins with possible description of the remains, and a sketch was made up to what he possibly looked like," explained New York State Police Investigator Daniel Lahue, who added that the fliers have been widely distributed throughout Dutchess County in the past and are still being distributed today, as the case has always remained open.

Lahue also said he hopes someone will recognize the subject from the four artist’s renderings on the flier.

"Basically, we hope that somebody will be familiar with the subject and familiar with where he is from or heard something from another person," the investigator said.

According to the information from the state police, the man’s remains were found on May 19, 2002, in the town of Amenia. Lahue said the man may have been deceased for approximately six to eight months prior to being found.

The subject was between the ages of 30 and 50, anywhere from 5 feet 2 inches tall to 5 feet 8 inches tall. He’s described as a white male of either Hispanic or Caribbean descent. His dental records are available to help assist authorities in their search.

When discovered, the deceased was wearing a plaid, long-sleeve "Arrow Big Oxford" brand shirt, size extra large; tan "Perry Ellis Portfolio" pants with a waist of 40-42 inches and an inseam of 25 inches; a black leather belt with a silver buckle; brown leather shoes, with soft soles, four eyelets on each side with brown laces, unknown size.

No foul play is suspected in the case, and authorities are hoping that those who may have some information that they were too timid to present during the past five years will now be willing to step forward. To do so, call the New York State Police Dover Barracks at 845-877-3660, or call the state police at their Troop K Barracks at 845-677-7300. Information may also be e-mailed to authorities at nysvicap@troopers.state.ny.us.
