Dorothy (Carberry) Fraser

LAKEVILLE — Dorothy (Carberry) Fraser, 88, loving mother of Joseph T. Fraser of Lakeville, passed away peacefully at Heritage Health Care Center in Venice, Fla., on June 30, following a brief illness.

She was born in Sharon on April 29, 1920, daughter of Lena (Clum) and Joseph V. Carberry. She was a devoted member of St. Bernard’s Church in Sharon and later of St. Mary’s Church in Lakeville before moving to Florida, where she attended Epiphany Cathedral in Venice. Her family and faith were the most important things to her and she will be fondly remembered for her love of them both.

Dorothy, or Aunt Doaf, as she was affectionately known by her extensive family of brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews worked as the manager of the former Connecticut Yankee in Salisbury and was employed at the former Parsons Appliance in Millerton before retiring to Florida.

She lived in Sharon, Lakeville and Ocala, Fla., before moving to Nokomis, Fla., where for the past 10 years, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading, biking, water aerobics, exercising and being with her Spanish Lakes friends.

She was a family-centered and most loving and devoted mother to her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Joe, and his wife, Maggie, of Lakeville; her grandchildren, Vanessa O’Connor and her husband, Kevin, of Lime Rock, Trevor and his wife, Jill, of Stamford, Conn., and Caleb and his fiancée, Jennifer Kane, of Meriden, Conn.; and her great-grandchildren, Amelia and Calvin O’Connor. We will all miss our Mom, Gramma and GiGi.

Other survivors include her Carberry brothers, Robert and his wife, Doris, of Sharon, Francis and his wife, Dorothy, of Banning, Calif., Donald and wife, Beth, of Nokomis, and Thomas and his wife, Teresa, of Lewes, Del.; her sisters, Emma Paley and her husband, Morris, of Sharon and Barbara McEnroe and her husband, Joseph, of Amenia; and a large number of adoring nieces and nephews.

Our faith teaches us that she has now joined her parents and her brothers and sisters, Vincent, Paul and Joseph, Virginia, Mary and Helen, in her heavenly home.

A funeral Mass will be offered by the Rev. Joseph Kurnath in celebration of her life at St. Mary’s Church in Lakeville on Saturday, July 19, at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow immediately at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Salisbury Visiting Nurse’s Association, 30 Salmon Kill Road, Salisbury, CT 06068; or Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Boulevard, Sarasota, FL 34238.

Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan has charge of arrangements.

‘Les Flashs d’Anne’: friendship, fire and photographs

Anne Day is a photographer who lives in Salisbury. In November 2025, a small book titled “Les Flashs d’Anne: Friendship Among the Ashes with Hervé Guibert,” written by Day and edited by Jordan Weitzman, was published by Magic Hour Press.

The book features photographs salvaged from the fire that destroyed her home in 2013. A chronicle of loss, this collection of stories and charred images quietly reveals the story of her close friendship with Hervé Guibert (1955-1991), the French journalist, writer and photographer, and the adventures they shared on assignments for French daily newspaper Le Monde. The book’s title refers to an epoymous article Guibert wrote about Day.

In 1983, writer and performer Nurit Koppel met comedian Richard Lewis in a bodega on Eighth Avenue in New York City, and they became instant best friends. The story of their extraordinary bond, the love affair that blossomed from it, and the winding roads their lives took are the basis of “Apologies Necessary,” the deeply personal and sharply funny one-woman show that Koppel will perform in an intimate staged reading at Stissing Center for Arts and Culture in Pine Plains on Dec. 14.

The show humorously reflects on friendship, fame and forgiveness, and recalls a memorable encounter with Lewis’ best friend — yes, that Larry David — who pops up to offer his signature commentary on everything from babies on planes to cookie brands and sports obsessions.
