Dutchess Day Faire a success

Dutchess Day School (DDS) hosted a Home-Grown Country Faire cocktail party and auction on Saturday, May 18, at The Reading Barn at Spring Hill Farm. One of this year’s honorary chairs, long-time Millbrook resident, Emilie Dyson, sponsored the country casual affair celebrating all things local, with a silent auction packed to the rafters with irresistible fare, and a live auction that enticed the traveler, wine connoisseur or sports enthusiast. The design for the auction was inspired by farm portraits created in art class by DDS students. Some of the artwork, cleverly designed and compiled on canvasses, was up for auction, and dishtowels with the children’s colorful farm images were also for sale. On the night of the auction there was also an epic version of the classic country bake sale — gourmet desserts handmade locally by friends of the school were on sale. For the first time in the history of Dutchess Day School auctions, bidding was done entirely electronically, via smart devices. The proceeds from this year’s auction will allow Dutchess Day School to continue to strengthen and broaden its curriculum.By Christine Whiting, Dutchess Day School’s director of admissions and financial aid.
