Dutchess Day School planet project

MILLBROOK —  Dutchess Day School designated Saturday, Sept. 24, as Moving Planet Day, highlighting the need to reduce carbon emissions through carpooling and bike riding. Recognizing the need to conserve resources and raise community awareness, Dutchess Day School, during the weekly assembly time, decorated donated bicycles  that were then displayed on campus.

Students adorned the bikes, which were each spray painted a different color, with found objects and small decorative items, like ribbons, stickers, trinkets, bells, old spoons, feathers and boas, gems and jewels, beads, broken CDs and buttons. Parents worked with homeroom teachers to help during the period of artistic inspiration in which students transformed bicycles into communication tools to spread the word about the need for conservation.

Along with other actions that the school does in the interest of a sustainable future, like composting its food waste, Dutchess Day School is committed to a healthy planet. The public is invited to  stop by to see the multi-colored bikes as they grace the front lawn of the school.

Dutchess Day School is a pre-kindergarten through eighth  grade independent school. For more information, contact  Henderson@dutchessday.org or 845-677-5014 or visit www.dutchessday.org.
