Every dog has his day (and a hamster won, too)

SALISBURY — Puppy Pride was on display on Sunday, Oct. 13, as dozens of pet owners paraded through Lakeville with their dogs, many of which were wearing costumes.

It was the second annual Pet Parade of the Salisbury Fall Festival (organized by the Tri-state Chamber of Commerce) , which has turned out to be an extremely enticing event because, after all, who doesn’t think that their pet is the most wondrous and beautiful of all?

This year, most of the entries were of the canine variety.

Last year, there were two turtles; they have gone off to live at the Millbrook School in its Trevor Zoo and were unable to get a day pass to attend the festival.

But their owner, Spencer Reiss, attended, this time with his dog, Lola, who was dressed as a UPS delivery dog and won for Best Costume.

Mary Wilbur, who is a Lake-ville Journal Co. advertising salesperson, was one of the organizers of the Chamber’s Scarecrow Contest and the Pet Parade. This year, she said,  “Tessie Connell brought a hamster,  which was in a little blue car. It won the prize for Smallest Pet. We all missed the goat from last year!”

Additional prize winners were the Labrador retriever owned by Donna Stoetzner, who won for largest pet; and Becky Belcher’s Scooby Doo, who won for Star of the Show. A small fairy and her pet corgi won in the category of Owner/Pet Look Alike, but the organizers were not able to get their names. Send an email to cynthiah@lakevillejournal.com and we will note the victory in our next issue.
