First baby of year brings smiles at Sharon Hospital

SHARON —The Northwest Corner’s New Year’s baby was born at Sharon Hospital on Jan. 2 at 1:17 p.m. Yumeka Huhges and Shawnde Stokes of Torrington are the parents of a son, Tyshawn Nagwan Stokes, who weighed in at 7 pounds, 10 ounces and measured 21 inches long.

“We are very happy. Just looking at him made everything perfect,� his mother said.

Medical staff who helped Huhges during the birth were Cuarmy Guangalli, RN, and Dr. Joshua Jaffe, obstetrician/ gynecologist.

The baby was born in Sharon Hospital’s new maternity center, which has advanced hospital equipment including a hydrotherapy room and private birthing suites.  

New parents can order a “Stork Club Dinner� for two at the hospital. A few of the menu choices include shrimp cocktail, chilled fresh fruit, filet mignon, baked stuffed shrimp, strawberries with cream and apple pie. The older sisters and brothers get congratulatory gifts before going home with their baby sibling.

In addition, parents of the first baby born at Sharon Hospital each year receive a “Getaway Package for Two� presented by Lakeville’s Wake Robin Inn; a savings certificate from Salisbury Bank & Trust Co.;  a layette set from the Tri-state Healthcare Auxiliary; and balloons and a plant from Roaring Oaks Florist in Sharon. In addition the family this year received a teddy bear, book, silver spoon and pen from Sharon Hospital.
