Floyd H. Smith Jr.


POUGHKEEPSIE — Floyd H. Smith Jr., 71, passed away on April 22, 2007, at home.

He was born on Dec. 8, 1935, in Pine Plains, the son of the late Ethel M. (Coons) and Floyd H. Smith Sr.

Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army, and was manager of the shipping department for Wells Fargo in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Survivors include three daughters, Debbie Smith, Brenda Smith and Jill Smith, all of Pine Plains; two granddaughters, Natasha Dykeman and Marsadie Smith; a sister, Joan Couse of Pine Plains; and his companion, Ethel Young of Poughkeepsie.

Mr. Smith was predeceased by a brother, Franklin Smith.

Funeral service and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Assoc., 301 Manchester Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

Arrangements are under the care of the Peck & Peck Funeral Home in Pine Plains.

On Saturday, Nov. 1, the Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will celebrate the Mexican Day of the Dead: El Día de los Muertos.

Mexican Day of the Dead takes place the first weekend of November and honors los difuntos (the deceased) with ofrendas (offerings) on an altar featuring photos of loved ones who have passed on. Elements of earth, wind, fire and water are represented with food, papel picada (colorful decorative paper), candles and tequila left for the beloved deceased. The departed are believed to travel from the spirit world and briefly join the living for a night of remembrance and revelry.
