WINCHESTER CENTER — Winchester Grange held its 10th annual Cabin Fever Craft and Bake Sale on Saturday, March 29.The event took place at the Grange Hall and included over 20 vendors, a bake sale and a luncheon.Among the vendors were many small businesses offering unique finds, including glass garden totems by Two Glassy Chicks, handmade teddy bears by Always Remember Me Bears, and candles by Party Lite.Other items available for purchase included beaded jewelry, scrapbook supplies, knitted items, wind chimes, doll clothes and decorative bath soaps.A raffle was held in the upstairs of the Grange Hall and featured items donated by members of the Grange.In addition to the crafts there was also a bake sale featuring an array of edibles donated by members of the Grange and friends from the community. Manning the bake sale table were Grange Chaplain Pam Wright, who has been a member of the Grange for over 35 years, and Grange Flora Marie Steiner, who has been a member for three years. When asked about the role the Grange plays in its community, Wright was quick to answer that her favorite aspect of the Grange is the focus on community service endeavors. These efforts include providing blankets for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), collecting food for local soup kitchens and donating Christmas toys to FISH. Steiner said she is equally enthusiastic about the Grange’s tradition of community involvement and she volunteers for any event that she can.“The Winchester Grange has been an integral part of the community for over 125 years,” Grange Master Todd Gelineau said. “The proceeds from this are going towards the upkeep of the Grange Hall. In addition to providing space for events and meetings, the hall also serves as a home for the Winchester Center Volunteer Fire Department and the local Post Office, which allows Winchester Center to preserve its zip code.”Winchester Grange holds a variety of events annually at the hall, including an upcoming Bell Choir Concert on May 13, a Spring Tag Sale on May 24, and the annual Strawberry Fest on June 15. The Little Guild is an animal shelter at 285 Sharon-Goshen Turnpike in West Cornwall. Founded in 1957, the organization rescues animals from local surrenders and under-resourced shelters. When a rescue animal arrives at The Little Guild, staff begins a careful intake and transition process to ensure the animal is safe, healthy and ready for adoption.
New arrivals are quarantined in-house. Vaccinations are verified as up to date, and staff assesses each animal’s medical, behavioral and placement needs. Rescues receive medical care, daily support and behavioral training to ease shelter stress. Once a dog has finished quarantine and is ready for a home, its profile is published at littleguild.org.

Prospective adopters fill out an online application with information about their household and veterinary and personal references.
The next step is for the prospective adopter and family members to meet the dog. If there is already a dog in the household, a meet-and-greet is scheduled so the dogs can get acquainted.
The animal care staff offers guidance based on its knowledge of each animal’s personality, needs and quirks to help families find the best fit.

Once a match is made, the adoption contract outlines aftercare. Adopters agree to return the animal to The Little Guild if the adoption doesn’t work out. The organization’s commitment continues after adoption, with six months of free training and follow-up from staff to answer questions or address concerns.
“Please don’t pass Marsala by,” Lemelin said. “He loves people and other dogs. He’s a lap dog who lives for snuggles, cuddles and face kisses. Marsala deserves a family, a soft bed and a lifetime of being chosen.”
