Housy boys soccer loses two

FALLS VILLAGE — The Housatonic Valley Regional High School boys soccer team hit a rough patch last week, losing to league-leading Nonnewaug on the road Tuesday, Oct. 13, followed by a loss at home against Litchfield Friday, Oct. 16.

Nonnewaug scored their first goal part way through the first period. Housatonic kept pushing the attack in the first period with great passing combinations by Reilly Lynch, Myles Clohessy, RJ Thompson, Andrew Hoffman and Mohamed Elserafy, as well as the defensive backs. Unfortunately, the Mountaineers could not put one in goal. With less than a minute in the game, Nonnewaug scored their second goal for a 2-0 victory.

Hosting Litchfield at home, Litchfield took the early lead, scoring with less than a minute left in the first half.

The Mountaineers came out with much more determination in the second half. This paid off as Hoffman scored a goal from an assist from Clohessy to tie the game. Shortly after, Elserafy scored an unassisted goal, giving Housatonic a 2-1 lead.

The scrappy Litchfield team came right back to tie the game, and then score twice again to take a 4-2 lead. With about five minutes left in the game, a determined Lynch moved through Litchfield defenders to score Housatonic’s third goal of the game. The Mountaineers pressed the attack and had one more good chance on a direct kick by Hoffman, but Litchfield managed to clear the ball. The final score was Litchfield 4, Housatonic 2.
