Housy girls eliminated early in Berkshire League hoops tourney

FALLS VILLAGE — It was a tough week for Housy fans: the girls varsity basketball team at Housatonic Valley Regional High School was eliminated in the second round of Berkshire League tournament games.

The week started promisingly on Monday, Feb. 23, as the girls played Shepaug Valley and defeated them by a score of 40-20. Jackie Underwood led the way with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Two days later the girls played Thomaston and lost by five points, 44-39.

“The game was played away, at Thomaston, which was unfortunate for us, Riley said. “We were knocked out of the tournament.

However, the girls are still scheduled to play in the state tournament. The first game was on Tuesday, March 3, at Housatonic, where the girls met Coginchaug Regional High School, from Durham, Conn.

Results were not available at press time but will be published in next week’s issue of The Lakeville Journal.

Meanwhile, the boys basketball team had a bad final week of regular-season play, losing in a tight match against Shepaug on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 69-66. They also succumbed to Northwestern on Friday, Feb. 27, 62-40. The team will compete in the state tournament this week; results will be published in a future issue of The Journal.
