Indie film ‘Double Belgian’ looking for extras in Amenia

AMENIA — Extras will be needed for a feature-length independent film shooting scenes in Amenia on Saturday, Aug. 26, and Sunday, Aug. 27.

Directed by Graham Winfrey and co-written by Winfrey and Doug Weeden, the comedy, “Double Belgian,” focuses on long-term friends as they pursue their goal of opening their own craft brewery.

According to Graham’s mother, Amenia resident Jane Winfrey, the film has been in the planning stages for a couple of years. In 2011, Graham wrote and directed the 15-minute short film “Wingmen,” which serves as a prequel for “Double Belgian.” She said the new film will be a much bigger production and hopes are that it will be entered it into film festivals following production.

While parts of the film have already been shot in Brooklyn, a few scenes will be filmed in different locations around Amenia, including the interior of Cascade Mountain Winery.

A private home in the area will be used for a wedding reception scene on Saturday, Aug. 26, for which extras are needed. The Smithfield Presbyterian Church will be used for the wedding scene the following day, another scene needing extras.

Individuals of all ages — with no prior experience needed — are invited to play guests in the  two scenes. All interested extras will be asked to meet on the set at noon for both days and refreshments will be offered while they wait.

Following post-production, all cast members will be invited to a local screening of the film and will receive a link to a video version.

The allure of the Smithfield section of Amenia, with its lush landscapes and rolling hills, make it ideal for the film, said Winfrey.

She described the Smithfield Presbyterian Church as “an incredibly beautiful church in an incredibly rural area, which was a real attraction for a filming site for a wedding in a rural setting.”

Along with director Winfrey, the film crew came up to Amenia on Sunday, Aug. 20, to begin two weeks of filming.
