Judith K. (Blenis) Wright Lamb Wilbur

SALISBURY — Judith K. (Blenis) Wright Lamb Wilbur, 68, died unexpectedly but peacefully on March 13, 2009, at Noble Horizons  following a long illness, which she battled valiantly.

She was born Aug. 20, 1940, in Biddeford, Maine, the daughter of Harold and Arlene Blenis. A graduate of Old Orchard High School, Judy followed in her mother’s footsteps and became an All-State basketball player in 1958. Soon after graduating she moved to Waterbury, where she met and married Hervey Wright Jr. in 1961.

Judy touched the hearts of many young women during her years as a coach at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, furthering their love for sports and knowledge of athletics.

An enthusiastic fan of the University of Connecticut Huskies and the Boston Red Sox, she was often found cheering them on with her friend, Betty O’Laughlin of Noble Horizons. She actively tracked her grandchildren’s sporting events, proudly attending whenever her health allowed it.

Judy, a loving mother and grandmother, is survived by her daughters, Joan Wingard and her husband, Jerri, of Falls Village, Jeannette Wright of the Virgin Islands and Falls Village and Kimberly Wright of Middletown, Conn.; a son, Michael Wright of Westfield, Mass.; her grandchildren, Erik, Michael Jr. and Alexandra Wright, Jacqueline, Stefanie, and Paxton Pedersen and Luis and Steven Wingard; her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Conrad Boucher; and several nieces and nephews and many friends.

A celebration of her life and memorial service will be held at the Falls Village Congregational Church on Saturday, March 21, at 11 a.m. Please wear bright colors. Condolences may be sent to Judy’s family at 162 Music Mountain Road, Falls Village, CT 06031 or by e-mail at jmwin@comcast.net.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
