Kaelan Alexander Palmer Paton


SHARON — Kaelan Alexander Palmer Paton, 16, beloved son of David Paton and Catherine Palmer Paton, died June 16, 2009. He was born Jan. 6, 1993, in Sharon.

He was a student at Housatonic Valley Regional High School and had just completed his freshman year.

He loved learning, sports, contra dancing and the natural world and all sentient beings.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Sandy and Caroline Paton of Sharon; and his sisters, Linnea, Shannon and Juliana Palmer Paton of Sharon; as well as many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Dale and Mary Palmer.

A celebration in his honor will be held on Sunday, July 12, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village. The service will be followed by a song circle, vegetarian potluck meal and music and folk dancing in Kaelan’s honor. Wear cool, casual, comfortable clothing. Rainbow colors are welcome.

Donations in his memory may be sent to the Kaelan Paton Memorial Fund, Salisbury Bank and Trust, PO Box 7, Sharon, CT 06069.

CORNWALL — Clyde Perham Weed, 74, passed away peacefully at his home in West Cornwall, Connecticut on Sunday, August 17.

Clyde was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Jeanne and Herbert Weed. He was the grandson and namesake of Clyde E. Weed, Chairman of the board of Anaconda Copper.

Backgammon series begins at Hotchkiss Library of Sharon

In light of rising local interest in the centuries-old game of Backgammon, Wednesday afternoon backgammon instruction and play sessions are being offered at The Hotchkiss Library of Sharon. The first such session was held on Wednesday, Aug. 13, attracting two enthusiastic participants, both of whom resolved to return for the weekly sessions.

Expert player and instructor Roger Lourie of Sharon, along with his equally expert wife, Claude, led the session, jumping right into the action of playing the game. Claude chose to pair with Janet Kaufman of Salisbury, a moderately experienced player looking to improve her skills, while Lourie teamed himself with Pam Jarvis of Sharon, who was new to the game.
