Laundromat: washed up

SHARON — Area residents who don’t have a washing machine now have to leave town to do their laundry. The Laundry Lounge laundromat in the Sharon Shopping Plaza has closed.

Dee Dee (Donovan) Mandino, whose family owns the plaza, said the laundromat has been there for 40 years, with various owners.

“It was originally owned by my parents when the plaza was first opened, Mandino said. “The last owner was Karen Hussey. I’m not sure why she shut it down.

Mandino said she did not have any contact information for Hussey.  The phone line to the laundromat has been disconnected and the e-mail address for the laundromat no longer works.

Mandino said she did not know if the laundromat would ever reopen.

“Some people have expressed interest in the space, but it all remains to be seen, she said. “Someone has to do renovations to it and the space also has to be updated.

The business is now for sale.
