Learning to grieve

MILLERTON — Residents will have the opportunity to attend a free “memorial service†at the Valentine Funeral Home, located on Park Street in Millerton, Monday, Dec. 4.

From 7 to 9 p.m., people are invited to bring in pictures of lost ones. A brief, nondenominational service will be followed by time for informal networking. Chuck Livsey, owner of the funeral home, said the event was an opportunity for people to connect with others experiencing loss.

“I realized that the service wasn’t being offered around here, and if it’s not being offered, it should be,†Livsey said. “The community needs and could benefit from an event like this, especially those who have suffered loss. It doesn’t matter whether you’re experiencing your first year or your 10th year of loss. This is something for folks who just need someone to sit down and talk to.â€

Valentine Funeral Home can be reached at 518-789-4888 or at valentinefh.com. Anyone, regardless of where they live, is welcome to attend.
