Learning to grieve

MILLERTON — Residents will have the opportunity to attend a free “memorial service†at the Valentine Funeral Home, located on Park Street in Millerton, Monday, Dec. 4.

From 7 to 9 p.m., people are invited to bring in pictures of lost ones. A brief, nondenominational service will be followed by time for informal networking. Chuck Livsey, owner of the funeral home, said the event was an opportunity for people to connect with others experiencing loss.

“I realized that the service wasn’t being offered around here, and if it’s not being offered, it should be,†Livsey said. “The community needs and could benefit from an event like this, especially those who have suffered loss. It doesn’t matter whether you’re experiencing your first year or your 10th year of loss. This is something for folks who just need someone to sit down and talk to.â€

The hearing closed on Tuesday, Sept. 9, after its seventh session.

Following the memorable benefit reading last season of Charles Busch’s Tony-nominated Broadway hit, “The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife,” the Sharon Playhouse will present a one-night-only staged reading of his riotous comic melodrama “Die Mommie Die!” on Friday, Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.

The production —a deliciously over-the-top homage to classic Hollywood mid-century thrillers — ­­continues the Playhouse’s artistic partnership with Busch, who reprises his iconic role of the glamorous yet troubled songstress Angela Arden.
