A Tragedy Remembered
In the early light,
a crime so dark invaded here.
A town so quiet, small and safe
is now in shock, succumbed by fear.
One Friday morn
with Christmas days ahead,
the demons of a troubled man
left his mother dead
With guns in hand he fled
to the school nearby—
Sandy Hook Elementary,
no one can tell us why.
This young man, in such a rage
embarked upon his killing rampage
The first to die were six
women so loyal and true
Then twenty children of tender age
were slaughtered by this man deranged.
Last, the shooter killed himself
and ended his misery,
leaving behind unspeakable grief,
and a terrible memory
Innocent lives cut short
nothing will be the same,
In this quiet town, shattered and torn,
struggling to cope with pain.
Oh Lord, we entrust them into Your care,
and hope their spirits will always be near
