Maplebrook, Bank of Millbrook hold golf tourney

COPAKE — We had a wonderful day for golf at our new venue, the Copake Country Club. The owners and general manager couldn’t have been easier to work with. It was a gorgeous day nestled between the countryside and Copake Lake.

We welcomed 132 registered golfers consisting of Maplebrook parents, staff, students, alumni, friends and vendors. It was our largest turnout ever for the Bank of Millbrook/Maplebrook Open and one of Copake’s largest tournaments.

Everyone enjoyed themselves and at the end of the day, the first-place team of John Macura, John Culligan, Josh Lattrell and Bob Duncan scored 10 under with a score of 62.  The second-place team placed with a score of 64: Dustin and Ken Hale, Joe Prevuznak and Keith Scofield. The third-place team consisting of Rocky Ducillo, Lisa Ducillo, Jerrard and Chris Kain scored a respectable 65.

Longest-drive prizes were awarded to Ed Fitzpatrick and Karen Zmudosky and the closest-to-the-pin honors went to Dick Hack, while Tom Berlinghoff won the putting contest over Billy O’Connell.

Golfers were generous with their support of the raffle, mulligan sales and silent auction, which included a golf GPS system, a week vacation in Cape Cod with golf package, a Callaway rangefinder and use of a BMW for a weekend.

Thanks to the golfers and our major sponsors, Bank of Millbrook, Meyer Contracting, Interlaken Inn, Culinary Management, Love Effron, Freshtown, Ray’s Roofing, Ducillo Construction, Northeast Maintenance Services, The Ferrari Family, Marshall and Sterling Insurance, as well as our other sponsors. We raised $27,000 for the Jane Fernandez Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to local day students.

Lori Hale is the assistant head of school in charge of development, advancement and alumni at Maplebrook School.

KENT – The cold temperatures and biting winds didn’t deter a crowd from gathering for the annual Veterans Day ceremony Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Standing in front of the memorials honoring local residents who served in the military, First Selectman Martin Lindenmayer, himself a veteran, said the day is “not only a time to remember history, but to recognize the people among us—neighbors, friends and family—who have served with courage, sacrifice and devotion. Whether they stood guard in distant lands or supported their comrades from home, their service has preserved the freedoms we enjoy each day.”
