Millbrook girls lacrosse team beats O’Neil, loses to Bronxville at Finals

MILLBROOK — On a rainy Wednesday, May 28, Millbrook High School’s girls lacrosse team lost to Bronxville with a devastating 16-1 final score. Millbrook had a spectacular season over all, but the final game was a heart breaker.

Carrie Halpin made the one goal; Stephanie Williams had one assist and goalie Claire Martell had eight saves, including her 600th. Her career total is 605 saves.

“Bronxville came out hard and never looked back. Millbrook had trouble getting off many shots and trailed 11-0 at the half,” said coach Jillian Barnes. “Millbrook had a few more offensive attempts but only scored one when Stephanie Williams found Carrie Halpin in front, who fought off multiple defenders and found the back of the net. Claire Martell also had some impressive saves and interceptions.”

Millbrook had beaten O’Neil earlier, and for the fourth straight year won the Division I Section IX Class D Championship. According to Barnes, in the Finals, Bronxville came in strong, scored in the first minute and continued as a powerhouse throughout the game.
