Millbrook kids hunt for 10,000 chocolate eggs

MILLBROOK — Children crowded in front of the gates of the Tribute Gardens on a perfect Saturday morning, April 3, for the annual Easter egg hunt.

Younger children went first following the Easter Bunny, while older kids had to fall in behind the Easter Kangaroo. Everyone scrambled to the playground at the top of the park to find 10,000 foiled chocolate eggs and 1,000 plastic eggs with a surprise inside.

After all the candy had been found, families settled into a morning at the park, while children abandoned their prizes to dig in the sand or play on the equipment. Bettyrae Nittiskie, president of the Millbrook Lions Club, said she didn’t know how long the event had been going on, but remembered bringing her son, who is now 32, every year when he was a child.

The event is sponsored by the town of Washington Recreation Department, which recruited volunteers on Facebook, including a very tall rabbit, to distribute the eggs and wear character costumes.
