MILLBROOK— The Annual Blessing of the Palms was held on Sunday, April 14, and once again the three churches of Millbrook participated: St. Joseph-Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Monsignor Gerard Colacicco; Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Matthew Calkins; and Lyall Memorial Federated Church, led by the Rev. Thomas Fiet. They came together for prayers, blessings — and to the delight of the children, Bella — the little donkey from Two by Two Petting Zoo. She was there to lead worshipers down Franklin Avenue to their church of choice.
Lyall congregants were fortunate; their church is right next door to the Thorne Building, where the ceremony took place. Grace worshipers only needed to cross the street to get to their church. Catholic parishioners, meanwhile, had to walk a few blocks away to the Catholic Church on North Avenue.
As always, the woven palms were amazing, and represented, along with the donkey, Jesus’ passage into Jerusalem. Easter follows Palm Sunday by one week.
