Mona Distin

BAKERVILLE/NEW HARTFORD — Mona “Sandi†Distin, 66, died Feb. 9, 2009. She was the loving wife for 23 years of Robert E. Distin Sr., who died in 2007.

Born June 20, 1942, in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Irene (Ivens) and Raymond Sprague.

Mrs. Distin spent the first 13 years of her life growing up in North Kingstown, R.I. She then moved to West Hartford and later New Hartford, where she started and operated Lucky Acres Herb Farm with her husband’s help. She also managed her husband’s business, Bob’s Trucking. Mrs. Distin was also a member of the 4H Club.

She is survived by three sons, Stephen Colpitts and his wife, Charlene, of Simsbury, Lincoln Colpitts and his wife, Kim, of Naugatuck and Raymond Markwas of New Hartford; her stepchildren, Robert E. Distin Jr. and his wife, Cindy, of Colebrook, Ronald M. Distin and his wife, Johnna, of North Canaan, Terry Mooney of Winsted and Sabrina Aldrich and her husband, Norman, of Torrington; three sisters, Susan Shuhi and her husband, James, of Torrington, Bonnie Sprague of Cromwell and Darlene Fullerton and her husband, Dave, of Montrose, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her longtime friend, Ruth Merriman of Terryville.

Funeral services were held Feb. 12 at Montano-Shea Funeral Home, New Hartford. Interment will be private.

SALISBURY — About 30 people turned out for the traditional Veterans Day ceremony at Salisbury Town Hall on a cold and snowy Tuesday morning, Nov. 11.

Chris Ohmen handled the colors and Chris Williams ran the ceremony.

North Canaan gives gratitude to veterans

NORTH CANAAN — Students at North Canaan Elementary School saluted servicemen and servicewomen at a Veterans Day ceremony Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Eighteen veterans were honored, many of whom attended the ceremony and were connected to the school as relatives of students or staff.

When longtime arts administrator Amy Wynn became the first executive director of the American Mural Project (AMP) in 2018, the nonprofit was part visionary art endeavor, part construction site and part experiment in collaboration.

Today, AMP stands as a fully realized arts destination, home to the world’s largest indoor collaborative artwork and a thriving hub for community engagement. Wynn’s departure, marked by her final day Oct. 31, closes a significant chapter in the organization’s evolution. Staff and supporters gathered the afternoon before to celebrate her tenure with stories, laughter and warm tributes.
