New Business Is About Style

WINSTED — Shana DeVaux is one of Winsted’s newest and youngest entrepreneurs. At 23 years old, DeVaux decided it was time to put her expertise in the hair-styling industry to work and open her very own beauty salon — Sacred Beauty.

Located at 120 Willow St., Sacred Beauty opened its doors on Feb. 7 and has already seen a steady increase in business.

"I have always wanted to do this, it was just a matter of where and when," DeVaux said. "I worked at a salon in town for three years and I felt I built up enough of a clientele. I wanted to move on, I guess."

After looking at the option of renting a chair from an existing salon, DeVaux realized that she wanted to stay in town and the best way to do that was to open her own place.

Enlisting the help of her fiancé, Eric Leger, and his brother, DeVaux rented a storefront in the Age of Video plaza, where a salon has previously been located. She and Leger renovated every inch of the space, from floor to ceiling, creating an open and inviting atmosphere.

"I think it’s an excellent location," said stylist Lindsay Stovall. "It’s a great atmosphere and a wonderful work environment. I always come in with a smile on and leave with a smile."

Stovall has also been a stylist for nearly three years and attended beauty school with DeVaux in Torrington. Prior to joining Sacred Beauty, she worked in a salon in Simsbury.

Sacred Beauty currently offers a wide range of hair services, including cuts, colors, perms and styles for men, women and children. Facial waxing, massage and tanning services are also provided on site. Two tanning beds will be available by the end of the month.

Senior citizens can enjoy a 10-percent discount on Tuesday for any hair service. Special promotional discount programs and packages are also in the works, including tanning packages.

"I want people to know that I can do anything that someone in Farmington can do without driving an hour," said DeVaux. "We have an inner-city look with small town prices."

Sacred Beauty is open Monday, noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. For an appointment, call 860-379-1105.
