Barbara Jane Churchill

SALISBURY  — Barbara Jane Churchill, 87, of Salisbury passed away in her sleep on April 3, 2020, at Sharon Hospital.

Jane was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on Nov. 19, 1932. She was a 1950 graduate of Catholic Central High School and attended The College of Steubenville. 

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Anna Kathryn (Carlin) and Michael Patrick Flynn; a sister, Mary Joyce and her husband, Robert Joyce; a brother, Edward Flynn and his wife, Evelyn; and her identical twin sister, Jean Flynn.  

Jane was a beloved teacher and spent a career in education working at St. Peter’s School in Steubenville and Convent of the Sacred Heart in New York City. She is best known for her support without judgment, her compassion, her easy laugh and sense of humor, and the unconditional love she gave to her family and friends.

Jane will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Carlin; her son, Ted, and his wife, Michelle; her granddaughter, Sarah, and her husband, Taylor; her grandsons, Spencer and Parker; and a great-granddaughter, Annie. 

Jane will also be forever remembered by her nephew, Mike, and his wife, Connie; her nephew, Terry; her niece, Clara; and her extended family and dear friends.

A memorial service and celebration of Jane’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jane’s memory to Noble Horizons, the Village Fund, 17 Cobble Road, Salisbury, CT 06068. 

The Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon has care of arrangements.

CORNWALL — Clyde Perham Weed, 74, passed away peacefully at his home in West Cornwall, Connecticut on Sunday, August 17.

Clyde was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Jeanne and Herbert Weed. He was the grandson and namesake of Clyde E. Weed, Chairman of the board of Anaconda Copper.

Backgammon series begins at Hotchkiss Library of Sharon

In light of rising local interest in the centuries-old game of Backgammon, Wednesday afternoon backgammon instruction and play sessions are being offered at The Hotchkiss Library of Sharon. The first such session was held on Wednesday, Aug. 13, attracting two enthusiastic participants, both of whom resolved to return for the weekly sessions.

Expert player and instructor Roger Lourie of Sharon, along with his equally expert wife, Claude, led the session, jumping right into the action of playing the game. Claude chose to pair with Janet Kaufman of Salisbury, a moderately experienced player looking to improve her skills, while Lourie teamed himself with Pam Jarvis of Sharon, who was new to the game.
