One more candidate

NORTH EAST — Millerton native Steven Merwin wants to let everyone know that he is running for office. On Sept. 24, The Millerton News ran a story on the results of the region’s primaries and caucuses and who is running for what office. Because there are two GOP candidates running for two seats on the Town Board in the town of North East, that race was not a part of the Republican primary’s proceedings. Therefore, Merwin’s name was not included in the article. The village water operator is running for town council.

Merwin’s name will be listed on the Republican line on the ballot come November, as will Republican incumbent Tim Shaffer’s, who also received the party’s endorsement. Town Councilman Dan Briggs has chosen not to run for re-election.

The home in Sharon that Alexandra Peters and her husband, Fred, have owned for the past 20 years feels like a mini museum. As you walk through the downstairs rooms, you’ll see dozens of examples from her needlework sampler collection. Some are simple and crude, others are sophisticated and complex. Some are framed, some lie loose on the dining table.

Many of them have museum cards, explaining where those samplers came from and why they are important.
