The following information was provided by the Connecticut State Police at Troop B. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Disorderly conduct arrest
Just after midnight on Aug. 16, troopers were dispatched to an address on Twixt Road in Cornwall on the report of a suspicious male walking around on the property. After investigating, troopers arrested Nicholas Karabinis, 45, of Cornwall and charged him with disorderly conduct. He was released on a promise to appear and was scheduled to appear at Torrington Superior Court the next day.
Passing crash
Early in the afternoon on Aug. 27, William Kruzshak, 75, of Norfolk was attempting to turn into his driveway off of Route 44 in Norfolk when another vehicle, a Nissan NV200 driven by Damien Davis, 39, of West Cornwall, attempted to pass. Davis struck the driver’s side of Kruzshak’s Subaru Forester, disabling both vehicles. Neither driver was injured. Davis was issued an infraction for following too closely and driving without insurance.
Distracted driving accident
At approximately 11 a.m. on Aug. 28, Rudiger Stor, 89, of Taconic was driving north on Taconic Road when he struck a parked landscaping trailer, which sustained damage. Rudiger stated he did not know what happened to cause the accident. He was uninjured, but his Subaru Outback was disabled and had to be towed. Rudiger was ultimately issued a written warning for distracted driving.
Car misses bear, hits utility pole
Just before 8 a.m. on Aug. 29, a 16 year-old minor was driving a GMC Sierra south on Route 7 near the intersection with Stein Lane in Falls Village when he swerved to avoid a bear in the roadway. As a result, the vehicle ran off the road and struck a utility pole. The driver was uninjured, but the vehicle was disabled and towed from the scene. The driver was issued a written warning for failure to maintain lane.

Damon McDonald, 18, of West Cornwall was driving south on Warren Hill Road in Cornwall at approximately 6 a.m. on Sept. 1 when he veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole. He was transported to Sharon Hospital for minor injuries and the Subaru Forester he was driving was towed from the scene. McDonald was ultimately issued a written warning for failure to maintain lane.
Disorderly conduct arrest on warrant
Around midday on Sept. 1, troopers arrested Michelle Benedict, 43, with no stated address, for an active warrant relating to an incident that occurred on the evening of Aug. 18 on Clayton Road in North Canaan which involved two victims, aged 19 and 64, who were reported uninjured. She was charged and processed for disorderly conduct, and was subsequently released on a $1,000 non-surety bond. She was scheduled to appear at Torrington Superior Court the next day.
Car spins out, strikes speed limit sign
At approximately 5:50 p.m. on Sept. 1, Stanley Morby, 46, of Salisbury lost control of his Chevrolet Camaro Z28 while turning onto Lincoln City Road from Route 44 in Salisbury. The vehicle spun into the shoulder and struck a 30 mile-per-hour speed limit sign. After the accident, the vehicle left the scene. Troopers eventually identified Morby as the driver after a public information Instagram post from Troop B yielded additional information. Morby was issued a misdemeanor summons and was released on a promise to appear. He was scheduled to appear at Torrington Superior Court on Sept. 8 for arraignment.
Tree falls in front of car
Deanna Mummert, 77, of Mill River, Massachusetts was driving west on Route 44 in Norfolk on the evening of Sept. 1 when a tree fell in front of her car. She drove over it, damaging the undercarriage of her Subaru Crosstrek and coming to an uncontrolled stop in the westbound lane. After being evaluated by EMS responders, Mummert declined further medical attention, though her vehicle was towed due to disabling damage.
Boathouse parking lot accident
Just after 11 a.m. on Sept. 2, Sharon Charde, 84, of Lakeville was pulling into the Boathouse Restaurant parking lot when she accelerated and struck a stone wall on the property, damaging approximately 10 feet of the wall. Charde reported injuries and was transported to Sharon Hospital by Salisbury EMS. The Saab 9-3 2.0T she drove was disabled and towed from the scene.
Grace Way rear-end finds both drivers at fault
Around midday on Sept. 3, two vehicles were attempting to turn onto Grace Way in North Canaan from opposite driveways. Jonathan Scott, 38, of North Canaan stated that the other vehicle, a BMW 335i driven by Cameron Trivaudy, 19, of Norfolk did not stop at a stop sign, nearly causing a head-on collision. Scott said he avoided the collision, but after pulling onto Grace Way, Trivaudy pulled out behind him, accelerated and collided with the rear of his Ram 3500 Big Horn. A witness reported that Scott “brake checked,” contributing to the accident. Scott was issued a misdemeanor summons for reckless driving, and Trivaudy was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart (resulting in an accident) and operating without motor vehicle insurance.
Trailer mishap damages parked car
At approximately 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 3, Grace Ramcharran, 28, of Lakeville was parked on the southbound shoulder of Route 7 just north of the intersection with Route 44. While her Volkswagen Tiguan was parked, the unsecured door of a trailer towed behind a vehicle traveling south on Route 7 swung open and struck the driver’s side. There were no injuries reported in the incident, and both vehicles could be driven from the scene. The driver responsible for the trailer—Jack Anstine, 56, of North Canaan—was issued a written warning for traveling with an unsecured load.
Motorcycle hits bear, oncoming car
At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 4, John McDonald, 63, of Torrington was riding his Kawasaki VN900D west on Route 44 near the intersection with Beacon Lane in Norfolk when a bear entered the lane in front of him. He was unable to avoid the bear, and upon colliding was thrown from the motorcycle. The motorcycle slid into the eastbound lane, impacting the front of an oncoming Toyota 4-Runner driven by Kerrilee Mintz, 58, of Canaan. McDonald reported minor injuries and was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital by Norfolk Ambulance.
