Panthers rack up two wins in Connie Mack play

Nick Dignacco drove in the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs to lead the Falls Village Panthers Connie Mack baseball team past the league’s top team, Litchfield, with a score of 7-6 at Salisbury School on July 8.

Ethan Kobylarz led off the eighth inning with a towering double over the left fielder’s head. After a strikeout and a flyout, James Kelly beat out an infield hit to move Kobylarz to third.

After Kelly stole second, Dignacco (who fouled off five pitches) drove the one-ball two-strike shot up the middle for the win.

Leading Falls Village were Dignacco, Kobylarz and Kelly, each with two hits. John Coe gets his first complete game win after relieving Tom Dignacco in the first. Dignacco faced five batters without registering an out, giving up five runs. Coe came into the game to stop the flood and ended up pitching all eight innings for the win, while striking out 10 batters.

Litchfield was lead by R. Kalita with two singles. Litchfield, which is 6-4 in the league and 6-5 overall was held to five hits for the game while Falls Village (3-6 in the league and 4-6 overall) slammed out 10 hits.

The Panthers came back from a 9-8 loss to New Milford on July 12 (in which they committed 13 errors) to topple Torrington 7-0 Tuesday night, July 15, without an error. Go figure; that’s summer baseball for you plain and simple.

Nick Dignacco turned in another great game, throwing seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out seven. He had a single, a double and three RBIs to lead the Panthers to their fifth win of the season.

Joseph Kreta added a pair of singles for the Panthers. Roberto Arciniega led Torrington with a 3 for 3 night, all singles.
