Peggy Goodnow McComas

SALISBURY — Peggy Goodnow McComas, 80, formerly of Cornwall and Norfolk, died peacefully on Aug. 4, 2012, at Noble Horizons, where she had lived for the past eight years. Born in Matapedia, Province of Quebec, Canada, she was a daughter of the late Elizabeth (Caldwell) Curtiss and the late Harry Caldwell of Norfolk. She attended The Gilbert School in Winsted. She was the widow of Paul Chamberlain Jr. of Cornwall and of the late Thomas Goodnow of Norfolk. In Cornwall, Mrs. McComas was a deaconess of the United Church of Christ and worked in the office of Dr. Bradford Walker. In Norfolk she was a member of the Church of Christ Congregational, the Norfolk Colebrook Garden Club, the Norfolk Country Club and the Doolittle Lake Club. In 1996, she moved to California after marrying Oliver McComas of Menlo Park and Norfolk. She is survived by a daughter, Denise C. Buchanan of Washington, D.C., and Norfolk; a son, Paul H. Chamberlain III of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a sister, Jean (Caldwell) Kashgarian of Hamden and Sharon; four grandsons; and several nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her sister, Betty (Caldwell) Curtiss of Norfolk.A memorial service will be held on Oct. 13 at 4 p.m., at Church of Christ Congregational in Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Noble Horizons, Church of Christ Congregational in Norfolk, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
