Pine Plains spring track triumphs in first meet of the season

PINE PLAINS — The Pine Plains varsity spring track team was victorious after racing against Rhinebeck in its first dual meet of the season on Wednesday, April 3.

The dual meet was held on the track behind Stissing Mountain Junior/Senior High School. The Pine Plains girls track team won with a final score of 90-32 while the Pine Plains boys track team triumphed with a final score of 76-46.

On the girls’ team, Maddy Michetti placed first in both the 100-meter dash and the triple jump and earned second place in the 200-meter dash. Olivia Trevena earned first place in both the 800- and 1,500-meter dash while Jules Losee won first place in the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump. Sage Douglass won first place in the high jump, second place in the 400-meter hurdles and third place in the 100-meter hurdles.

Britney Mercado earned first place in the shot put and discus while Alexandria Coons placed second in the shot put and third in the discus. Autumn Prezzano came in second place for the 100-meter hurdles and third place for the 400-meter hurdles. Patience Tindall came in second place for both the 800- and 1,500-meter dash.

Racing on the 4 x 800-relay team, Tindall, Trevena, Keara Nielsen and Brianna Blackburn earned first place while Michetti, Samantha Haines, Emma Hall and Emily Mason won first place for running on the 4 x 100-relay team.

Meanwhile on the boys’ team, Alex Farias earned first place in the 400-meter hurdles, second place in the 1,600-meter dash and third place in the 800-meter dash. Bryce Stracher placed first in the 100-meter dash and long jump while Adam Hess won first place for the 100-meter hurdles and second place for the high jump. Nick Saunders came in first place for the shot put and second place for the discus.

In addition to placing first in the triple jump, Kieran Reilly won second place in the 800-meter dash while his teammate Joe Krimmer won first place for the high jump and third place for the 400-meter dash. For the 4 x 800-relay team, Reilly, Farias, Alex Lopez-Reyes and Landon Fitzgerald came in first place while Stracher, Krimmer, Damien Hurn and Christian Aldana won first place for running on the 4 x 100-relay team.

Pine Plains Coach Jeremy Weber commented that Rhinebeck “was very strong with many great performances across the board from their team.” With regards to Pine Plains’ performance, he said, “The coaches are very proud of our entire team for an outstanding team effort across the board.

“Not only were the performances great but our entire team stepped up to help the running of our first meet of the year be as smooth as possible,” Weber said.

DOVER PLAINS — Lelah M. Somers, 97, a longtime Dover Plains, New York, resident, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2026, at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, New York. Lelah was born on July 3, 1929, in Pawling, New York, to the late Byron and Lelah (Watts) Brill. Lelah grew up in Pawling and on Nov. 22, 1946, in Pleasant Valley, New York, she married James F. Somers, Sr. Mr. Somers passed away on Sept. 3, 1970. Lelah worked for New York State as a therapy aide for thirty-years and as a senior companion for New York State for thirty-two-years, with specific care provided to the mentally disabled.

She enjoyed taking care of the mentally disabled, was a wonderful mother to her four children, always putting her family first. She is survived by her son, James F. Somers, Jr. and his wife Donna of Dover Plains; two daughters, Doreen Monica of Wingdale, and Frances “Fran” Horton of Dover Plains, who was also her caregiver for many years; seven grandchildren, Debbie, Margie, Leah, Stephanie, Deirdra, Benji and Jimmy and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, and her step-son, Kenny Elliott. In addition to her parents and husband, Lelah was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol “DeeDee” Maile and Gil Maile, her son-in-law, Stephen Monica, and her son-in-law, Benny Horton as well as her companion of over forty-years, Andrew “Mac” McAlravey and her siblings, Ferris Brill, Eleanor Barryann, Richard Brill, William Brill and Barney Brill.

The exhibition, on view through Nov. 14, introduces visitors to an artist whose life and work moved between mysticism, poetry, film and the avant-garde.
