Recreation rundown

PINE PLAINS — Recreation Director Jennifer Chase appeared before the Town Board at its meeting last Thursday to report the rec department is busy.

“Recreation is  busy right now,â€ Chase said. “This was our busiest week, we had over 50 campers.â€

She said she has been trying to make use of what supplies the town already owns.

“The beach is open, she went on, “and the beach staff is really great working with the camp this year, Chase said. “It seems like there’s a steady flow of beach goers, although we could use nicer weather. There are no geese so the health inspector is happy.

She said summer soccer has begun. The recreation director said she’s trying to maintain the fields “a little better, and as part of that she’s working with a map to figure out what the town really needs.

“I have a list of what programs we have and how to be more efficient, she said. “And I’m trying to determine what we have and what we need. I’m starting to look at a five-year plan, which is really important to me.

Town Councilman Bob Couse asked Chase why the town is using the school’s fields when it’s getting charged to do so.

She said that’s part of why a plan is needed.

“What we’re having a problem with is the fields down there are so overloaded, she said. “I want to figure out what do we need and should we reconfigure what we have.

“We don’t need to duplicate a bunch of stuff that’s already there,â€ town Supervisor Gregg Pulver said. “We want the fields that we have to  be as efficient as they can. We’re looking at the whole community and seeing what we have as inventory and what we can build on.â€

There is a scene in “The King of In Between,” a documentary about musician Garland Jeffreys, that shows his name as the answer to a question on the TV show “Jeopardy!”

“This moment was the film in a nutshell,” said Claire Jeffreys, the film’s producer and director, and Garland’s wife of 40 years. “Nobody knows the answer,” she continued. “So, you’re cool enough to be a Jeopardy question, but you’re still obscure enough that not one of the contestants even had a glimmer of the answer.”
